Ryan James believes that Cincinnati can be the city of Opportunity, Access, and Trust. As the Director of Strategy for United Way, Ryan develops programs that economically empower families throughout the region. In these harsh economic times, he is committed to ensuring that residents have the tools they need to succeed. Ryan has dedicated his career to creating opportunities for our community members to not only survive, but thrive.

Raised by a single mother who worked tirelessly as a teacher, Ryan learned the power of dedication and community support early on. Because of his childhood experiences navigating houselessness, he sees the impact of economic safety nets for families one unexpected emergency away from losing stability. If elected, Ryan will champion equity and innovation, tackling Cincinnati’s toughest challenges with creative solutions. He is dedicated to broadening economic opportunities citywide.

He has led economic empowerment initiatives in both the nonprofit and private sectors, gaining extensive experience partnering with the City of Cincinnati. Ryan has dedicated his career to enacting policies that directly improve lives, passionately driving initiatives that empower individuals and families across the community. He has led organizations like the Children's Defense Fund, Easterseals, and Talbert House. He also led the launch of a DEI commitment tracking startup, further showcasing his commitment to innovative and inclusive solutions.

Ryan is an avid volunteer and community advocate, having served with organizations such as Invest in Neighborhoods, the Housing Our Future Steering Committee, Urban League, the NAACP, and the Camp Washington Urban Revitalization Council Board of Trustees.

Ryan is a proud and active resident of the West End and a devoted dog dad to his two puppies, Chance and Rico.
